Project description:
This reinforced concrete apartment building was constructed in Stovolos, Nicosia. It is composed of pilotis, which is utilized as parking and storage area and four upper stories comprising residential flats. The utilization of wide, shallow, inverted beams interconnecting the vertical structural elements, for the attainment of the architecturally defined flat ceilings, was considered as superior to the traditional flat slab system, in terms of stiffness, displacements, ductility and second order phenomena sensitivity. In addition, bored, cast in-situ, concrete piles were implemented in order to secure the transfer of foundation loads to lower soil layers of sufficient strength, instead of their direct distribution on the moderate strength surface soil.
